Education

Education is paramount to BRAFFTV as our mission is to promote Brazilian culture in Canada. Each year the festival features a series of educational activities and events concurrent to the film screenings. This has included activities ranging from practical workshops to debates about audiovisual productions in Brazil and Canada, which serve to introduce Toronto audiences to Brazilian cinematography and culture. These events are open to the community of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and are free of charge. Participants in this programming have, along with the festival`s audiences, the opportunity to meet Brazilian directors and producers and to discuss themes presented on the screen - themes related to Brazilian culture and society - and to discover the backstage and techniques of film production in Brazil.

Some of the workshops and seminars promoted by BRAFFTV have been Low-Budget Filmmaking (2008), Contemporary Brazilian Cinema: From Nelson Pereira dos Santos to Fernando Meirelles (2009) and hands-on workshops such as Intercultural Mobile Films (2011) and Documentaries (July 2012).
